When it comes to residential windows, no windows will last forever. The average duration of windows is between 15-20 years. Now, how do you know when it’s time to change your windows?
If you notice a draft from the window you know it is time to get it replace. There are a couple of reasons you might feel a draft. There might be a broken seal or an air leak on the window.
- Rotten Window Frames
If you have wooden windows in your house, eventually the frame will become rotten. At this point there is a high likelihood that you will develop air leaks, flooding and potentially a total window replacement.
- Hard to open
As the windows age, especially double hung windows, they become unbalances and the window starts to jam up. This is another sign that the window needs to be replaced.
- Condensation between panes
This only applies to double pane windows. If you see condensation between the panes it usually signs a broken seal. At that point the window is just as efficient as a single pane window.
