Preferred pipe manufacturing process by pipe manufacturers

Seamless pipe

The seamless pipe has a homogeneous structure throughout the entire pipe length. Eventually, the homogeneous structure will make the seamless pipe to be the strongest among all the pipe types. They are manufactured in various sizes and schedule. However seamless pipe is not used in the manufacturing of large diameter pipe. Pipe manufacturers prefer Seamless pipes to be used in the manufacturing of pipe fittings largely. They include bends, elbows, tees, etc.

Mandrel mill

Under the mandrel mill manufacturing process, steel is heated at high temperature. With the help of a rotatory pair, a cylindrical hollow is produced at the centre of the Steel. And secondary roller will be used in the outside diameter and thickness. The outside diameter, as well as the inside diameter, will be approximately the same in the Mandrel mill process.

Mannesmann Plug Mill

This manufacturing process was invented by a German engineer. There is only one difference between Mannesmann Plug Mill Manufacturing Process and Mandrel mill process is that the inside diameter is achieved in a single pass in the mandrill method. But in the German method, multiple-stage reduction makes it possible. Pipe manufacturers prefer mandrel mill process as the inside diameter is achieved in a single step.

Forged seamless pipe manufacturing process

In this process, forging die is used as a slightly larger diameter than a finished pipe. In the forging die, a heated billet is placed. A cylindrical forging is created using a hydraulic press of forging hammer after this pipe is machined for the final dimension. Pipe manufacturers prefer this method when they are require large diameter seamless pipes. This cannot be manufactured using traditional methods.

Extrusion process

Extrusion process uses a die and inside the die, a heated billet is placed. With the help of a hydraulic ram, it will be pushed against the piercing mandrel. The material will flow from the cylindrical cavity and end in the Mandrel. So the extrusion process will produce a pipe from the billet. Sometimes we pipe manufacturers produced by with a high thickness it is called as mother hollow. Secondary pipes can be manufactured with the help of mother hollow and production of pipe can take place with different dimensions.

The welded pipe manufacturing process

Plate or continuous coil is used in the process of weld pipe manufacturing. The plate of the coil is rolled in a circular section in the plate bending machine. The pipe can be welded with filler material or without filler material. Under this welded pipe manufacturing process large pipes can be manufactured. The sides are cheaper when they are compared to the seamless pipe. These pipes are a little weaker because of the weld.

Welded pipe manufacturing has different methods under it. They are

  • Electric resistance welding
  • Electric fusion welding
  • High-frequency welding
  • Submerged arc welding

The ongoing urbanization and the never-ending industrialisation process increases the demand for pipes and their products worldwide. When we scan the last decade report, there was no downfall in the production of pipes. Pipe manufacturers constantly work on serving the demand.
