More people are choosing rugs over carpets these days. A good hide rug will bring out the best qualities of a room while the wrong rug clashes with the room and makes it appear less stylish or organised. Making the decision about which rug to buy may not be as easy as it may seem. There are several factors to seriously consider before making such a decision.

Material
The material a rug is made of is very important. It will determine how it is cleaned, how you use it and its placement among other things. There are several main types of hide rug materials namely sheepskin, goatskin, reindeer and cowhide. There are also exotic hides such as springbok hides. It will ultimately be a matter of personal preference which rug material you use.
The rug’s fibre density and loft determine how soft and cosy it is and is the main determinant of the material you select. The colour of the material might also be a determining factor in selecting a hide rug. For example, a dark rug makes the room feel more intimate while a light rug will make the room appear more spacious
Size
The size of a rug is obviously a vital factor in choosing a rug for a room. You will definitely prefer a large rug to a small one but it would be best to select a rug best on how well it fits the room. Hence, a large rug is more suitable to a large room and vice versa. The purpose of the rug may also determine the rug’s size.
If you will use it to protect your feet in the kitchen, then a small rug is more appropriate but if you want it in your living room to lie on a large one is more suitable.
Decor
The main reason most people buy hide rugs is for decoration. It is true that different rugs can bring out different elements of a room. However, you should look at the room as a whole and consider everything else it contains so as to buy the best rug.
It would be helpful to think of the rug as a piece of art and select one that compliments the decor rather than clashes against it. Some rugs will be rich in colour and should be combined with an equally colourful room. On the contrary, a monochromatic rug should be placed in equally colourful surroundings.
Durability
A rug’s durability is of particular importance depending on how much traffic you expect on it. If you have children or pets it would be best to look for the most durable hide rug. You cannot stop children and pets from playing around on a rug which will accelerate its wear and tear processes.
If you intend on placing in an area with a lot of foot traffic such as by the door than a durable rug is suitable. However, a hide rug by the side of the bed requires less durability since only you will use it.
