Beef-approved Game Dev tools
ika- it may look incomplete and inactive, though head devs are working on it. The devs have hit a few bumps regarding compilation, but it's open source anyway.

Sphere- Complete, but uses the ugliest language ever named Javascript.

Zelda Classic- I have since lost interest in it, though I still make scripts occasionally. This program is what really brought me into making games.

I'm using Linux!

MPL Code Progress:
Starting on the VM. I need to define M-ASM.

Congratulations!
The game has been lost by you.
(But I still lost first.)

RE: Beef-approved Game Dev tools
TO add to your list,

RPG Maker - a simple yet powerful tool

GIMP / PHOTOSHOP - your one stop source for making textures and layouts for your games.

RE: Beef-approved Game Dev tools
I don't like RPG maker. For one thing, it costs money, and for another, there's plenty of freeware that can totally oust RPG maker.

Not to mention RPG maker loves to be a pain to work with.

RE: Beef-approved Game Dev tools
I've worked with RPG Maker. I didn't list it because 2K and 2K3 are both illegal in most cases and XP costs money. Plus, VX is also illegally translated.

I definitely will add The GIMP. I'm gonna limit this list to only freeware, 'k?

GIMP is good, but I deleted it when my hard drive went Kaboom... It would be nice to use it again. But Serif Photoplus is just as good for what I want to do.

Source SDK is free if you have a Source game (Half-Life 2, Team Fortress 2, Left 4 Dead, etc.)...

I have it :P

It's easy! It creates FPS games with a click of a button. It gets harder later on though.

RE: Beef-approved Game Dev tools
BYOND is a great tool as a starter system. It's very organized, and the DM language is sort of a mix of C++ and Python, very easy as a starter language. It was the first language I learned, even before HTML.

The BYOND development environment is what I based the EPL/MPL development environment on for the most part.

Even though you have to have to have BYOND on your computer to play BYOND games, it is a very useful system and is almost limitless. Even though it is intended to make 2d bird's eye view games, there have been many examples of algorithms that can change BYOND's gravity system and portrayal system to make sidescroller games and even 3d-ish games.

RE: Beef-approved Game Dev tools
I will agree with that statement, BYOND is a very well done program, and is very easy to use.

Stuck, for one thing this is useful and deserves to be stuck, and also I want to beat Sy' to it so I can get volts.
